The pottery shown here represents the Southwest style that is prevalent in Jo's work.  These are made from a high fired dark stoneware.  Most are burnished, giving the clay a satin-type gloss.  The insides are glazed and they are food-safe.  Many are  embellished with stones, leather, feathers, copper, beads and brass wires.
The pot with the Thunderbird is carved in the sgraffito technique.  Different colored slips, or liquid porcelains, are applied to the pot while is is still wet.  It is then covered again with the same dark clay.  After several days it is then carved just deep enough to expose the colored clays.

Jo's "Chili Bulls" are very popular with connoisseurs of chili and those who just want to have fun at their parties.
Prices start at $60 for a small Chili Bull to $325 for a set of 5 Chili Bulls.
